Anne Wallach Thomas, founding Executive Director
Anne Thomas is the founding Director of Shasta Living Streets. She has led the organization to share a vision, provide amenities, and empower people to bring innovations in active living excellence and clean mobility that improve the quality of life — day in, day out—for all people in Shasta County.
Anne is the child of a man left fatherless by traffic violence that plunged his family into poverty, the legacy of which carried into her childhood. Her mother lived as a child in Copenhagen. Together, her parents’ disparate life experiences left her with two subconscious truths: that streets are dangerous, and that there can be another way.
She has twenty years’ experience facilitating collaborations and working across sectors to achieve breakthrough results. In her years working globally on climate adaptation analysis and strategies for The Nature Conservancy Global Climate Adaptation Program, she realized the urgent need for robust, connected, equitably focused active transportation, public transit, and sustainable development.
Shasta Bike Depot and Redding Bikeshare are part of a 10-year vision that involved engagement, planning and collaboration with local residents, and organizations at the national, state and local levels.
Anne has a B.A. from UC Berkeley in Political Economy and is a native of Palo Cedro, CA.
