Shasta Living Streets is a local movement that promotes active living and community interaction as people move safely through neighborhood streets.
The purpose of the program is to engage, encourage and inspire community members and leaders in order to create more livable communities within our region for an economically viable and vital place to live, work and play.
We promote change in the communities across the North State that will allow people ages 8-80 to lead an active lifestyle and walk and bicycle for everyday transportation and health. The ability to do so is transformative for community vitality and economic development as well as for improving overall health and prevention of illness.
We do this in a number of ways
- Strengthening Public Understanding. By building community support for walking and bicycling for everyday transportation and health through outreach and communication.
- Supporting Events to Experience the vision. Because some people can’t visualize change until they experience it themselves. By developing and implementing local events, as well as supporting events of others, that help community members and leaders experience the vision in order to further develop enthusiasm for walking and bicycling for everyday transportation and health.
- Enabling active citizen volunteers. By communicating with and generating support from local citizen volunteers for projects, support and advocacy
- Supporting leaders, encouraging improvements. Endorse, inform, and promote infrastructure, policy and community development for safe and inviting walking and biking for everyday transportation and health within and between towns and communities in our region
